March 8, 2010
Welcome back from what I hope was a safe, relaxing and restful March Break.
Since the snow has melted from our parking lots our students will once again be using the lower parking lot, closest to our front doors, during their recess time. As a result we ask that parents and volunteers not park in the lot during the time the children are outside for their recess breaks. The students are outside at 9:50 until 10:05 and again from 12:05 until 12:30. We thank you for cooperating with us concerning this matter.
Also, because of the quick melt our yard is quite muddy and wet. If your child is now not wearing their snow pants, a pair of splash pants might be a good investment. Also for the younger children it might be a good idea to put in and extra pair of socks and pants in to their book bag.
The students, staff & families at Lakefield Elementary School have teamed up with Leisure Time RV Center for a unique fundraiser called "Spring for Haiti"!

There will be a PSSC meeting this evening, Tuesday February 23 starting at 7pm in the school staff room. All interested parents are welcome to attend.
Our Grade 6 and Grade 3 registration forms are due tomorrow, Wednesday February 24th. Our present grade 5 and present grade 2 students need to choose a program for next year, either the French Immersion program or the English Prime Program. There was a bit of confusion as some parents didn’t realize that even if their child was going to continue on with the English Prime program, that they still had to register them for next year. Yes all students in grade 2 & 5 must return a completed form, selecting their choice of program and returning it to the school by tomorrow, Wednesday February 24th.
Finally, Hot Lunch orders are due at the school on Thursday before 10:30. This order will be for the week after March Break. If you missed the order on Thursday then your child will not be receiving a hot lunch the week we return after March Break.
Feb 22nd 2010
There will be a "Family Fun Day" meeting this evening, Monday Feb 22nd starting at 7pm in the school library. Any and all parents who are interested in helping out with this project are encouraged to attend this evening’s meeting.
Confirmation of ticket purchases for our "Spring for Haiti" campaign are being sent home. Your actual tickets are being held here at LES until the drawing on Friday, March 12th. If you wish to purchase additional tickets, please send a note to Mr. Ripley with your name, child’s name, phone number, teacher’s name, and of course the number of tickets you wish. As always, thank you for your continued support in helping the victims of Haiti’s earthquake.
Reminder that all grade 5 students and all grade 2 students need to have their registration forms into the school by Wednesday February 24th. The grade 5 form was bright orange and the grade 2 form was bright green. Every student in these 2 grades has to select a program, complete the form and return it to the school by Wednesday Feb 24th.
Some of our students will be putting on a talent show for the other students in the school with the hopes of raising some more money for our Help for Haiti campaign. The donations are completely voluntary and can be sent in with your child. The Talent show will take place on Thursday February 25th in the afternoon.
Finally, there will be a PSSC meeting on Tuesday, February 23rd starting at 7 pm in the school staff room. All interested parents are encouraged to attend.
Feb 19th 2010
Our grade 2 students were given their registration form for grade 3. All grade 2 parents are to complete the lime green form, indicating their choice of program for their child. You can choose either to continue with English Prime program or enter the French Immersion program. Every grade 2 parent must return a completed form. The forms are to be returned to the school no later than Wednesday, February 24th.
Most of our grade 5 parents have returned their grade 6 registration forms but there are still a few parents who have not yet returned the form to the school. If you are struggling with the decision, please feel free to speak with your child’s homeroom teachers or myself to help answer any questions you may have. The grade 6 forms are also to be returned by Wednesday February 24th.
Believe it or not there will be a Family Fun Day meeting on Monday February 22nd starting at 6:30 in the school library. Family Fun Day is a huge event that takes place at the end of the year and is organized by our parent volunteers. There are several jobs for people to do and they hope to see many new faces at the meeting on Monday.

Tonight Monday, February 15th, there will be an information meeting for all Grade 2 parents at 7pm at Rothesay High School. Information will be provided on parents options for either English Prime or Immersion programs. As our "Help for Haiti" continues our Kindergarten students are looking at collecting sets of 100 pennies. If you have any pennies please send them in with your child and we will make sure they get to the Kindergarten classes. Even better would be for the 100 pennies to be rolled, not necessary but certainly helpful.
All grade 4 & 5 peer helpers are invited to design a Peer Helper Logo on an 8’11 sheet that we will then scan and print out on Iron-on T-shirt transfers. Using white paper and bright colors seems to print out the best results. Be sure to include LES, Peer Helpers and the school year 2009-2010 and of course your own unique creative design!
The deadline for submissions is Thursday, Feb.26th. All designs are to be handed in to the guidance office. If you have any questions please feel free to contact Angela Brown, Guidance Counsellor at 847-6212.
